A member asked:

I asked my kidney doctor what the rash i had on my chest was, she said it was shingles, seeing a regular doctor in july, should i ask for a vaccine?do i need to put anything on it?how did i get it in the first place?i think i had my shots as a kid ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Shingles is a resurgence of the chickenpox virus you had as a kid. Taking the vaccine now is unlikely to do anything. It would not treat the rash. You can contact your doc & see if he will see you sooner. There are treatments that can reduce the intensity. Keeping it clean will help it heal if the rash is minimal, Otherwise call your doc.
