There are no pain nerves in the vagina; was "stinging" t the opening and/or labia? If so, yeast infection might explain it, especially if there is itching or irritation without douching. By the way, douching is an unhealthy, unsafe practice. It is not necessary for vaginal hygiene or health, and it seriously raises the risk of bacterial vaginosis, yeast infections, and STDs if exposed.
