A member asked:

Breasts engorged and hard after miscarriage at 4 weeks. with my 2 kids i had a big milk supply, but this was a very brief pregnancy, only a little liquid is coming out, and it is painful. i am massaging and trying to express, but it is not working?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It is certainly unusual to get breast engorgement after such an early miscarriage, but massaging and trying to express can only perpetuate the problem. Avoid stimulating the breasts further. Wear a well fitting bra, restrict fluids, and apply cold packs. It should start to improve after a day or two. See a doctor if you develop a fever or red areas.
