Acne is not an infectious disease and is not transmitted from other persons or bacteria in the environment. "Acne bacteria" are normal on the skin in everyone, with or without acne. If you have severe acne -- especially the kind that leaves scars (pits in the skin) you should be in the care of a dermatologist. Damaging acne almost always can be treated to prevent lifelong cosmetic problems.
