At age "45", the stimulation of the ovaries is increased, and the level of estrogen consequently much higher, so just prior to ovulation or just prior to menstruation, the rapid fall in estrogen levels can precipitate vasovagal reactions ("hot flashes") which can cause the symptoms described. Ask your GYN physician about low dose oral bcp's to avoid these conditions.
