The American Academy of Ophthalmology says red veins or vessels in the white part of the eye (sclera) can be a sign of eye allergies. Eye allergies occur when the body's immune system reacts to a foreign substance, such as pollen or pet dander, that comes into contact with the eyes. This reaction can cause inflammation and redness in the eyes, as well as itching, watering, and a burning sensation.
