A member asked:

I have had a permanent metal retainer behind my front two upper incisors for 30 years. is it safe to have an mri scan?

Any oral appliance that is removeable should be taken out before an MRI to avoid detachment and heating. A permanent appliance if well cemented should be fine but some artifacts could show up in that area.

Absolutely safe! Beside to see you Dentist at least every 6 months to evaluate the integrity of the seal holding the wire in place.
