A walled off: Region of infection usually containing pus. Treatment of choice is to have this drained by a doctor. Antibiotics may often be ineffective as hey can't penetrate the walled off region.

A collection of pus: Infections can form a collection or white cells or pus. These can be superficial or deep. Both types require antibiotics based on cultures and surgical drainage. The wounds are left open for drainage and should not be closed. A variety of dressings are available including silver dressings larger open wounds, once the acute infection is controlled can benefit from vacuum assisted dressings.
