A member asked:

I am a 20 year old diagnosed with epilepsy, pnes, and some mental health problems. lately ive had the hiccups a lot. sometimes multiple times a day. in fact, all it takes is someone saying something about hiccups and they start. any ideas?

Let's assume that the hiccups are NOT psychogenic. Therefore, have your doctors cover possible problems in the brain, looking at the "AREA POSTREMA" to exclude a hidden source of problems. An MRI should suffice.

I agree with Dr Machanic...in addition, it would be appropriate to take a team approach and have a GI Dr search for any GI or other source for triggering irritation of the nerves to the diaphragms.
