"Spotting" (small amounts of vaginal bleeding between periods) has several possible causes. Any woman with abnormal vaginal bleeding, no matter how little, should be examined professionally. In women around your age, STDs like chlamydia or gonorrhea are common causes, but of course only if at risk for STD.
