If not on oral birth control, "spotting" can occur with ovulation of two follicles, as the estrogen levels are double and just prior to ovulation estrogen levels drop suddenly which can start withdrawal bleeding in the form of light spotting. If on low dose oral BCP's, a lack of punctuality taking the active pills will also result in light spotting.
