A member asked:

2 urine pcr tests showed enterococcus faecalis at about 5500 pcr value. symptomatic with near constant urge to urinate for past 8 weeks. no other symptoms. regular urine cultures only showed good bacteria. should this be treated with antibiotics?

I'm unsure if we can hang our hat on this relatively new technique of diagnosing UTIs as it doesn't difFerentiate between actual infection vs only colonization of bacteria. Also follow-up testing will remain positive as it continues to detect the bacterial end products. In view of your symptoms, I would empirically prescribe a course of ampicillin if you're not allergic to penicillin.

your symptoms are indicative of an infection. Suggest repeat a clean ctch mid-stream urine culture and see a Urologist. In the meantime drink plenty of water
