There is always the chance. But in many medical studies the chances are between 3 and 15%- and not predictable as the type of virus and the person's immune system determine this.

If you ever have had HSV type 1 yourself, you are immune to new infection with the same virus type. Even with no history of oral herpes (cold sores etc), half of all adults in the US test positive for HSV1, indicating past infection. If that includes you, you'll never be at risk for catching your wife's infection.
