A member asked:

Hello! ive read some research stating that you have risks of cardiogenic shock and possibly cardiac arrest if you were to do a polar plunge or jump into freezing water. what are the odds of that actually happening? would you as docs do it yourselves?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It is well known that sudden immersion into ice cold water can cause cardiac arrest even in healthy individuals. There is also a very early occurrence of drowning from gasping and aspiration the water into the lungs.
