Was given prednisone 20 mg 1x day for 5 days due to lumbar inflammation. what i don't get is my bp was high and i have a history of high bp, and prednisone can make it worse, so im scared to take it. heart rate is also faster than usual 90-95 bpm?

Local injection of steroid is more likely to be used for lumbar pain rather than prednisone. I do not blame you if you choose not to use the prednisone. You could try non steroidal antiinflammatory agent with back massage to relieve the pain.
