Any size: Of hernia over 1 cm can cause entrapment of intestine. Actually the smaller the hernia the more likely it is to incarcerate/trap or strangulate. Check with a surgeon as to whether it should be repaired or can be observed. A lot depends on whether it is symptomatic as well.

No specific size : The intestines can protrude through very small holes, particularly in the case of some groin hernias. The larger the hole, the more likely the intestine will protrude, but the less likely it will become stuck, or incarcerated. Hope this helps!
