I have been skipping my period for about 4 years now with the nuvaring. i keep it in for an extra week and skip it. i'm wondering what happens to those eggs that don't become fertilized, and will this cause an issue in the future for getting pregnant?

Think of the process as pausing egg release. The meds make your body think you are pregnant ( during which women don't release eggs) so they remain on standby to resume in the future. You should return to baseline fertility when you stop the BC. It may take a few weeks/months to resume but it is not like our chicken eggs that go bad if not used on time.
