Hello, i'm going to have thyroid surgery soon, i'm a marijuana user, they told me to take a urine test, will it show that i'm a marijuana user? i am a bit uncomfortable with the doctor?

Pre-operative urine testing is routine and looks for evidence if kidney disease or poor function that could lead to surgical complications. Such testing would not screen for marijuana use. In my state you must sign a waiver before anyone can test your blood or urine for drugs, unless it is expected as part of a pre-employment physical.

Drug screens are not commonly done around surgeries, urine analysis would not detect cannabis otherwise. Your marijuana use should be discussed with your team otherwise and you should consider discontinuing use as long term effects are known to be detrimental specifically given your age.
