A member asked:

Do you think this scenario could happen? since sperm lives in the fallopian tubes for up to two days, if me and my boyfriend had sex tomorrow and i get my iud removed the day after, that the sperm can fertilize the egg shortly after my iud is removed?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Maybe/not. You assume that sperm traveled into the tubes all the way passed the length of the uterus and are waiting. You assume that the trauma of the removal does not irritate the uterus so it would remain favorable for a pregnancy. This may be possible if the IUD has no hormones, but not if it does. The cited average wait to a desired pregnancy is 6 months (weeks-a year range).
