I have test results i would like to understand, my girlfriend had a hsv-1 and hsv-2 tests done and i would like to understand the results. both came back above high normal...41.50 for hsv-1 and 11.80 for hsv-2. can you explain to a lay person?

She is infected with HSV-1 (as are half of all adults in the US). Probably she has HSV-2 as well, i.e. genital herpes -- but it depends on the control value of the test. Look carefully at the test report; there should be a second number. If Her 11.80 result is substantially higher than the control number, she is infected with HSV2.
