A member asked:

Why would a d dimer be false negative? could the timing of doing the test cause a false negative?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Any lab test can have a false negative. If the test was done before any clot formed in the blood vessels, the d-dimer test would be negative. A negative test does not exclude later development of a clot.
