While Benadryl and Sertraline can both individually cause CNS depression, both taken together are safe and have no adverse drug reactions. Continued Advised caution with operating vehicles and heavy machinery

It is not often but it can occur that the combination of diphenhydramine hydrochloride and sertraline can cause what is called Serotonin Syndrome which can have symptoms of shivering, diarrhea, rigid muscles, fever and seisures and even death. It is rare but it can occur. Therefore, it would be best to avoid combining those two medications. Good question to ask!
