It is not often but it can occur that the combination of diphenhydramine hydrochloride and sertraline can cause what is called Serotonin Syndrome which can have symptoms of shivering, diarrhea, rigid muscles, fever and seisures and even death. It is rare but it can occur. Therefore, it would be best to avoid combining those two medications. Good question to ask!
