I am sick with post nasal drip, which has caused a very sore throat that is painful even when talking and swallowing. what can i do to ease the pain?

You have a cold. Post nasal drip doesn't cause sore throat; both symptoms are caused by the same virus. An anesthetic throat spray or lozenge containing benzocaine (e.g. Cepacol and many other brands) can provide temporary relief of such throat pain. Ibuprofen and similar medications (e.g. Advil and others) also can help. Good luck.
