A herniated intervertebral disc in the upper spine may cause chest discomfort. Usually symptoms radiate from the back around the side &into the front of the rib cage. However if the ruptured disc presses against a certain area of the spinal cord symptoms may be felt only in the front of the chest. An MRI of the thoracic spine would demonstrate this. A neurologist is best to evaluate & advise you.
