There are outside structures near the vagina where sperm contact will not trigger pregnancy. Sperm have limited energy stores and only enough to travel inside the vaginal mucus at normal body temperature to reach the egg and conceive. Sperm placed outside lose their energy stores within minutes and die. Whatever other sources you are reading are erroneous.
