A biopsy is sent to pathology and the pathologist looks at it under a microscope. Based on the microscopic findings, the type of cancer is diagnosed. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Adenocarcinoma may be detected in a regular PAP smear. If it is higher up in the cervical canal, then a brushing or biopsy should be submitted to a pathology laboratory.
