Cancer cell origin: Squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix originates in epithelial cells, while adenocarcinoma of the cervix originates in glandular cells. Both come from the same superficial layer. There is little or no difference in the treatment, progression, or prognosis between the two. As with most cancers, the earlier the cancer is caught and treated the better the likelihood for long-term survival or cure.
