Pap smears have been in use for decades before we understood the link between cervical cancer and some HPV strains. They give you early warning if cervical cancer has or may soon develop (it can arise in HPV negative women). Before the vaccine, studies showed as many as 70% of college age women had evidence of prior infection. Avoid this surveillance at your own risk.

No need to get tested for HPV, but you should get repeat PAPs as advised by your doctor. If needed, the smear can be tested for HPV.
