A member asked:

Can people with heart arrhythmias (premature atrial and ventricular ectopics for example) safely take diuretics? i'm asking because of their effect on electrolyte balance?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

You're correct in associating electrolyte imbalance with potentially causing or worsening cardiac arrythmias. Low potassium and low magnesium levels are especially problematic. If you do take diuretics periodic checking of serum electrolytes is important as it may be necessary to take supplements.
