If you are allergic to narcotic-related medications for cough such as dextromethorphan (Robitussin DM or Mucinex DM, OTC products) or codeine (Robitussin AC by prescription), you can try benzonatate (non-narcotic antitussives, brand name Tessalon by prescription). If you are also allergic to the latter, you can try a mixture of fresh ginger slices with honey, swish and swallow.
