What causes a woman to get bv and recur?

Let's see?: Ineffective or incomplete treatment may be the cause. One can get continually re-infected depending on sexual practices. Is your sex partner circumcised and what is his hygiene? Do you use condoms. Are you using sex toys? Do you have impeccable perineal hygiene? You may need a prolonged treatment and you may need a dual treatment with oral meds and per vagina meds. Sorry for the recurrence!

We don't know: 70% of women have gardnerella vaginalis present in the vagina at any given time. When it overgrows, it is called bacterial vaginosus (bv). 1 out of 10 women will experience recurrent overgrowths of that bacteria for no obvious or known reason. When that occurs, we traet with antibiotics and continue a reduced dosing for prophylaxis. That works for over 90% of the women having this problem.

Also: Studies show treatment failure rates of 50% by 3-12 months for all forms of medication for bv. It is tough to correct the acid base & natural bacteria status & often recurs. Even non sexually active women can get BV though it is more rare to occur. Douching, multiple partners, sex without condoms during BV treatment, all make recurrence more likely. Lactobacillus Reuteri rc 14 probiotic may help.
