A member asked:

My grandmother had a mastectomy and radiation at 40 bc never came back, got lung c at the age of 73, died at 74 (smoked). she had 8 sisters, 1 died of lung cancer at 61, the others died old not cancer related. can i assume she did not have brca gene?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Whether she had BRCA or not would not matter for your health. If you want to know if you have BRCA, you can get tested, but before getting tested, ask yourself, "What will I do with the results?" Wish you good health!
