A member asked:

If your daily dose of carbamazepine is reduced from 800mg to 400mg a day for epilepsy will you get withdrawal symptoms. fatigue, frequent seizures, loss of appetite etc. it was suppose to be raised but got lowered for some reason. it's been 5 days?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

If your dose was lowered subsequent to the determination of serum drug levels, it may have been needed if the level was above the therapeutic range. But if the level drops to subtherapeutic amounts, withdrawal seizures will likely occur, so recheck this. Do discuss any of your symptoms with your doctor. Avoid driving, activities at heights, use of power equipment until this is all stabilized.
