If you're not truly having difficulty transferring solids from your mouth to your throat and then from your throat to the esophagus, then I'd consider this a phobia. For reassurance a speech pathologist can perform a swallowing study on you at your local hospital and then properly advise you. If it's felt to be a phobia a mental health professional can help with cognitive behavioral therapy.

There are many potential problems that can make you feel that you will choke. They can be problems with the esophagus, the throat, or even in the brain. To start to sort it out will require a visit to your primary care doctor, and potentially require some tests. Because we are talking about potentially choking, you should not put this off. You should make your appointment ASAP. Good luck.
