Hormonal Oral Contraceptives contain hormones that regulate your menstrual cycle. It takes at least 10 plus days in the first cycle for the new hormone level set point to prevent ovulation. It is common to have breakthrough bleeding or other side effects such as cramping, breast tenderness, etc the first few months until the hormone level becomes consistent.
