A member asked:

I went for my first mammogram. left breast was fine but nodules were found in the right breast and further testing is needed. what exactly does this mean or what are the possibilities?

Since multiple nodules are present, fibrocystic disease is most likely present. Further evaluation consists of a careful breast examination, ultrasound and, if deemed indicated, biopsy. Your physician, gynecologist or a breast surgeon will guide you through the workup.

Nodular densities found on digital mammograms at age "41", usually will require at least a "sentinel lymph node" biopsy on the affected side. If you have close female relatives with mammary dysplasia or actual breast cancer, the need to ascertain the nature of the "nodules" is created.
