A member asked:

My 5 year old was sick at the end of october & it lasted into the 2nd week of november. she still has a phlegmy, nasty sounding cough as well as some congestion & runny nose still going on. is it normal for those issues to persist this long?

As I tell my patients most will be better in 2 weeks but most take 14 days. So give it a few more days.

As I am now answering this at the end of November, if you have not had her evaluated by her doctor, please do so. At this point, most coughs and congestion would be gone or at least significantly improved. She needs her nose, throat, ears looked at and her lungs listened to.
