First ask why?: While utis are common in females, recurrent ones, depending on frequency, is not. Before determining treatment, it is important to find out why you have recurrent utis. It can be a structural problem like reflux or obstruction or it can be a matter of hygiene. It is important to see your doc to find out why.

Prevention helps: Wear loose, cotton underwear; wipe from front to back after bowel movement; drink plenty of fluids (water, cranberry juice; not caffeine or soda pop; limit oj); urinate as soon as you get urge to go, don't wait long time before going; urinate before and after sexual intercourse. See doc to be evaluated/treated for interstitial cystitis, a more involved form of UTI if they continue to occur.

Hiprex may be one: Recurrent utis can be due to urinary tract structural abnormalities, immune symtem compromise as in uncontrolled diabetes or hiv, or problems with secreting certain blood group antigens which can affect the ability of bacteria to attach to cells lining the urinary tract. After you are evaluated for potential underlying causes, you could be put on prophylactic/suppressive antibiotcis or hiprex.

Depends on cause: Treatment depends on cause- find this out, you'll then be able to treat it: 1.Diabetes (control blood sugars) 2.Irritant (e.G soap too alkali) 3. Anatomical issues (urologic intervention) or 4. Physiologic problem (pharmacotherapy). Regardless, some situations demand a doctor's expertise (serious infection) others require prevention on your part (complete voiding, reduce risk of an std).

Boost immunity: Taking a zinc supplement 50 mg/day (with food), vitamin D3 10k IU/day, and a good probiotic daily might help solve the problem since they all boost immunity and reduce inflammation and pain. Give this a try, it may alleviate the need for meds.
