In our lab a ferritin level 25 is within normal limits for a woman. If your level is truly low it could be a precursor to iron deficiency anemia in the future with ongoing monthly menstrual bleeding and not taking a daily iron supplement. However, your personal physician is best to advise you regarding this matter.

All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, your results are not diagnostic of iron deficiency. Normal ferritin for women is 11 to 307 micrograms per liter. Wish you good health!
