Hi doctors. i have not had a bowel movement since monday morning, although 3 days is not unusual for me. i have colace and miralax at home. should i take either of these, or something else, and how do i know when i should discontinue the medication?

Colace won't be effective when you haven't had a BM for 3 days. You should take a scoop of miralax now and if you do not have a good bowel movement in 8 hours, you can take another dose. Colace is a stool softener so you should take it twice a day along with adequate fluid intake every day. Miralax is a relative benign laxative so you can take 2 or 3 times a week as needed, e.g. no BM for 2 days.
