Mixed Up Issues: Gas, mostly swallowed air, does not cause pain. Oxygen within the air gets absorbed but not the majority nitrogen: body water is already saturated wth it. Intestinal pain due to portions of bowel being stretched as a result of peristaltic contractions in adjacent regions of bowel, temporary kinks of the bowel, etc. If coordination not optimal, portions of bowel are stretched & can be very painful.
