Get period once in 5 to 8 months. doctor did a scan. no cysts. offered me meds to regulate it. she said it was a choice. i opted not to take them. i don't understand. could there be a problem with my hypothalamus??

Not necessarily. Ovarian or pituitary disorder is more likely. It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination, and maybe some tests. It would be prudent to see a doctor, preferably a gynecologist. Wish you good health!
