A member asked:

Accidentally taking too much magnesium 2000-3000mg for colon cleanse, bowel movements are stringy and urgent or in large patties? some are long and thin but multiple. would that be normal with too much magnesium?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The maximum dose of magnesium is thought to be 2000 mgs. More than that can cause excessive diarrhea with substantial fluid loss, dehydration and, if you have kidney function issues, serious consequences such as confusion, other neurological and cardiac rhythm disturbances. Notify your physician and get instructions or call the poison center to get advice.
