Interesting question. I would imagine that if a person is mouth breathing due to sleep apnea, the oral mucosa could dry out and lead to an increase in gingivitis.

Mouth breathing dries gingival tissues and increases risk of gingivitis. Suggest that you see a specialist Periodontist to help you support gingival health. Also see a specialist Orthodontist. As the roof of the mouth is the floor of the nose, palatal expansion may increase airway.
