A member asked:

I broke distal phalanx of my right foot toe (without dislocation) a week ago, but today xray revealed that the bone is healed. my concern is that toe is still swollen. should i visit the doctor for the swelling and is this atypical situation?

Rather typical as swelling may persist indefinitely following the fracture. Visiting the doc would still help in giving you peace of mind and excluding other conditions that may contribute to swelling.

I am a little confused. It requires a minimum of four weeks to show bone healing on X-ray. To see healing within one week tells me something different. The main concern is non healing and mal position of the fracture. Allow normal proper healing to prevent a non union and complications.
