Sudden, severe, sharp pain in lower back and stomach 3 weeks ago. dr thinks kidney stone. no scans done. had blood in urine. no stone passed to my knowledge. now frequent need to urinate even after just going. is urination symptom from the stone?

Could be. You need further testing to locate stone and its type and size. by a cct ultrasound or plain xray. In the meantime drink a lot of water, take ibuprofen for pain and when you pass urine do it thru a filter or screen to catch it and have iot analyzed. Good luck
