A member asked:

I have been using bactrim for 2 days for a uti. i just found out im pregnant. what are the chances of bactrim causing birth defects at 3-4 weeks pregnant?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

All we can say that bactrim is to be avoided in pregnancy, especially in the first trimester because of its antifolic acid effects. Hopefully only 2 days of it is inconsequential. In any event the risk is said to be small as I'm sure very many women have inadvertently taken Bactrim during early pregnancy.
