A member asked:

I keep reading that risk of colorectal cancer is increasing sharply in young adults.. this is causing worry. does overall risk remain low for 25 year old? no family history?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The incidence of new cases of colorectal cancer(CRC) remains unchanged although the numbers in people under the age of 50 is slowly increasing such that 1 in 10 CRCs is diagnosed in younger people. Based on this new data, the screening age for CRC has been lowered to 45 yrs. Since you have no family history, you should undergo your first Colonoscopy at the age of 45.
