A member asked:

If someone has hypertension caused by unhealthy lifestyle not the hypertension that runs in families so will his child have the risk of developing hypertension?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The frequency of this problem is high enough that good lifestyle factors alone will not prevent it from being expressed in families. In the US ~1/3 are hypertensive between 40-60 and 60% are after 60. The most common label is idiopathic, or definite cause unknown. Good lifestyle, proper nutrition, sleep and exercise can reduce potential for the disorder, yet it may arise anyway.
