A pregnancy test will usually show positive by 2-3 weeks after conception and certainly by 6 weeks gestation.

If you had unprotected sex and were worried about being pregnant, you could take a test as early as 15 - 18 days later. No need to wait 40 plus days. In future practice safe sex so need to be tested.
